Zymogram gels of Venus flytrap eluates. The lighter stained gel bands mark sites of different proteases separated by electrophoresis. The distinction between cysteine and aspartic proteases is based on inclusion of two protease inhibitors, pepstatin and E64 in the gels. The control gel contained no inhibitors. The arrowheads mark the positions of reproducibly identified proteases. The starred bands are of unknown origin. Note the size differences of the cysteine and aspartic proteases
